Okinawa Sushi & Hibachi Steak House

What’s up fellow foodies! It’s been a minute hasn’t it? I’ve been so busy trying to find some pocket friendly restaurants that I haven’t been able to post regularly. If you are a big Japanese foodie like I am, you are going to love Okinawa Sushi & Hibachi Steak House.

Japanese food is one of my top favorite foods. If I could eat it every day I would. I decided to try the Shrimp Hibachi lunch special which turned out to be a very good pick. Unlike most hibachi lunch specials that skimp on the rice, Okinawa Sushi & Hibachi Steak House is very generous with the rice portions. They were also generous with the veggies and shrimp. I snapped this quick picture before I headed back to the office to chow it down. It tasted as good as it looks.

I was surprised I had 7 pieces of shrimp instead of the usual 3-4 and these were jumbo shrimp fellow foodies! I have to say for $12.09, I got my money worth. What you don’t see in the picture was the medium sized ginger salad that also came with it. I can definitely see myself coming back here again because the food was really good. If you have one in your area, check it out. I hope your experience will be as good as mine.

A Dinner Meal Under $20

What’s up fellow foodies! I accepted a challenge to make a healthy meal for under $20 and you know what? I did just that. The grand total came to $18.67. I got $1.33 back in cha change! 💵 Boo-yah! Seeing how I’m a lover of seafood, I wanted to try something different. I went the Caribbean route with my meal. Check it out.

What you are looking at is Caribbean style shrimp with Caribbean style rice (by Zatarains) and fresh garlic butter asparagus with lemon. It was soooooooo delicious. I shocked my own self by how good it turned out. I can definitely see myself making this again in the future. What about you? Have any of you made an amazing meal lately that was under $20? If so, what was it?

Pappadeaux

What’s up fellow foodies! I’m coming at you tonight with another foodie review. After hearing so many people brag about how good Pappadeaux is, I decided to give them a try. I ordered the seafood platter which includes: a stuffed crab, fried shrimp, two pieces of fried tilapia, a blue crab cake and one stuffed shrimp. All of it was piled on a plate of dirty rice which was my choice. I opted for dirty rice instead of a plate of fries because I figured that would be better. I snapped a quick pic before I dived into it.

Lord have mercy. This dish has to be one of my biggest letdowns this year in terms of “fine” dining. There was nothing fine about what I ordered. The blue crab cake had little to no crab meat in it, the stuffed crab was stuffed with nothing but batter-no meat whatsoever, the fried shrimp and tilapia was bland and my stuffed shrimp was a total embarrassment. There was nothing stuffed about it. Don’t get me started on the dirty rice because the dirty rice tasted atrocious. I was sitting there trying to figure out for the longest what all the bragging was about. What I got didn’t look or taste like what was on their menu.

Considering the the money I spent, my wait time to get it and how disappointing my dish was, I feel my rating below is absolutely appropriate for Pappadeaux.

Do better Pappadeaux.
